📢WARNING: Please don't underestimate the amount of time it takes to get anywhere in Ireland. You might think the island of Ireland is a small place but it isn't! If Goggle Maps says it will take an hour, allow two😉. Average speed on any journey is 40km/hr so please bear this in mind when assessing our tour itineraries and don't be misled by the apparent short distances!

  • Payment Terms

    All tour bookings must be paid in advance and all payments are final.


    We do not offer cancellation terms so be sure to have your own holiday insurance inn place that covers curtailment in case you need to cancel or in case your flights are delayed or cancelled.


    That said, we will work with you as best we can to amend a booking to suit minor alterations in dates, numbers etc and any additional costs will be passed on to you. We do not offer a refund if you decide to shorten your tour either before or during the tour.


    We accept credit cards only. All payments to be made in Euro.

  • International Flights

    We don't supply flights. Most international flights arrive into Dublin, Cork or Shannon airports.


    If you arrive before 11am you can head straight for the bus as you arrive into Dublin or Cork Airport. When you arrive we'll collect you from the bus stop. If arriving at Shannon we'll collect you personally from the airport (we're very close to Shannon).


    If you arrive later than 11am it's best you enjoy a night in Dublin City Centre and soak up the Irish hospitatlity before travelling to us the next day.


    If you are travelling a long way - from USA, Australia, India etc, you will be glad of a day or two in Dublin to relax and recover from the jet lag before heading to us to start your motorcycle tour.


    FREE BUS / PRIVATE TRANSFERS


    Remember, we offer free bus transfers from Dublin City or Dublin Airport, and Cork Airport or City. We offer free private transfers from Shannon Airport and Limerick City. All options bring you straight to our door.

  • Am I the Kind of Person for these Self Guided Tours?

    If you are a reasonably outgoing person with basic riding skills and are willing to occasionally challenge your riding skills without challenging your pride, then you are the kind of person for this tour!


    If you are a miserable sort, where it's your way or no way at all, and you can't deal with the highlights of our adventures then please don't book! If you are having fun then we are having fun.


    Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to make sure your trip is a safe and enjoyable one and we'll give you all the tuition and encouragement you need before you set off.


    💾Our Self Guided Motorcycle Tours in Ireland utilise Google Maps and smartphone technology. You must be reasonably computer literate and able to handle a smartphone and Google Maps in order to navigate our pre-set routes. If you are not confident to navigate using such technology then please get some training from your grand-children or other young person before you arrive here for your tour. We advise you not to pick up young people in the park but to use a young person that you actually know.💾

  • What Do I Need to Pack?

    Bring all your own riding gear if you can fit it in - including your crash helmet and sturdy footwear. If you can't the we will provide high quality riding gear and helmets and waterproofs free of charge.


    Pack some layers to allow for adjustment to temperatures.


    Bring a change of clothes and alternative shoes for the evening (other than your riding boots). We don't tend to dress up much here in Ireland so don't feel like you need your posh frock for the evenings.


    Pack a camera and / or Go-Pro.


    Pack your normal medication, sunglasses and or riding goggles. Bring your passport, cash and credit cards.

This tour will see you head east from our HQ to Waterford City and you'll make your way along the Copper Coast to Kinsale and the start of the Wild Atlantic Way. You'll take in little gems such as Clonakilty, Unionhall and Ballydehob before heading north to Bantry and Glengarriff.     Option 1 - You are already staying in Ireland


    Simply talk to us about which transport you need to take to get to our HQ in Adare. Ideally you need to reach Adare by about 12 noon so you can decide yourself when you need to leave your accommodation.


    Alternatively, if you have a rental car you can drive to us and leave it with us whilst on your motorcycle tour.


    Option 2 - You arrive into Ireland by air travel


    If you arrive before 11am you can head straight for the bus as you arrive into Dublin or Cork Airport. When you arrive we'll collect you from the bus stop. If arriving at Shannon we'll collect you personally from the airport (we're very close to Shannon).

    At RetroVentures HQ


    We will welcome you to our premises in the heart of Adare, Ireland's prettiest village. We'll carry out some paperwork and get you fitted out with any riding gear and helmets that you need. We'll introduce you to your motorcycle, help you pack and run through your tour itinerary. With a final visit to the loo we will see you off.


    Day 1 Route


    You will travel a relatively short distance today to Waterford. Depending on timing and time of year (daylight hours etc) you will either take the twisty route or the more direct route, both of which will navigate through Co. Tipperary.


    You'll spend your first night in the majestic city of Waterford where you can explore the town, pubs and restaurants in the evening, all within walking distance of your accommodation.

  • Tour Day 2 - Waterford to Kinsale

    Day 2 Route


    Today you will ride west along the stunning Copper Coast. The coastal route will take through popular tourist spots such as Tramore and Dungarvan.


    You will visit Cobh on route (the last port of call for the Titanic before it's fateful journey across the Atlantic) and a visit to the Midleton Whiskey Distillery for a tour and sampling of the famous Jameson's and Midleton brews.


    You'll ride into Kinsale town, a beautiful harbourside location, where you will stay the night close to all amenities.

  • Tour Day 3 - Kinsale to Bantry

    Day 3 Route


    Kinsale is the start of the Wild Atlantic Way. You'll take in little gems such as Clonakilty, Unionhall and Ballydehob before heading north to Bantry.


    This is a superb ride along the southern coast into West Cork.


    Bantry town awaits with its lively nightlife and fish and chips and Bantry Bay Mussels of course!

  • Tour Day 4 - Bantry to Killarney

    Day 4 Route


    First stop after leaving Bantry is Glengarriff for another pitstop. Glengarriff is another beautiful spot on the southern shores of West Co. Cork.


    Then it's off along the southern coast of the rugged Beara peninsula and and intrepid exploration of the stunning Healey Pass to Lauragh before continuing on your way through the Killarney National Park via Molls Gap and Ladies View to Killarney.


    You will stay two nights in a row in Killarney so you can settle in and enjoy everything Killarney has to offer.

  • Tour Day 5 - Killarney to Killarney

    Day 5 Route


    It's off to the Glencar National Park, Sunny Pass, and the remarkable Gap of Dunloe today. You will love every minute of this ride and you'll ride roads that most people don't!


    You'll spend another night in Killarney with a good evening of entertainment in town and a short walk back to your hotel.

  • Tour Day 6 - Killarney to Dingle

    Day 6 Route


    A shorter day's ride to day. You'll head to Dingle stopping at Inch beach at where you can ride on the beach and get some really cool action shots for your Insta page.


    Then ride the stunning Slea Head drive on the western most point of the Dingle Penisular. Turn up mid afternoon in Dingle town and enjoy a wonderful evening by the sea exploring Dingle's many bars and restaurants.

  • Tour Day 7 - Dingle to RetroVentures HQ

    Day 7 Route


    Head via the north Co. Limerick coast today along the Shannon Estuary back to based in Adare.


    This shorter ride will give you time to explore Dingle in the morning before leaving.


    At the end of the tour we will debrief each other and get you on your way home, to the airport or to your next destination.

This tour will send you north from our HQ via the Tarbert open air ferry to Co. Clare. You will pursue a stunning and rugged path north to Co. Galway, Co. Mayo and Co. Donegal.     Day 1 Route


    You will travel a relatively short distance today to Kilkee. It's a beautifully scenic route along the great River Shannon Estuary to the Tarbert Ferry.


    You'll cross the Shannon on the open air ferry and ride into west Co. Clare for your first night's stay.


    You'll spend your first night in Kilkee town centre where you can explore the town, pubs and restaurants in the evening, all within walking distance of your accommodation.

  • Tour Day 2 - Kilkee to Galway

    Day 2 Route


    You will head along the Co. Clare coast today via the Cliffs of Moher and ride the moonscape of The Burren.


    You'll pass through Kinvara and Ballyvaughn before heading to Galway. You will stay in Galway City right in the centre of town and have access to the beautiful streets and pubs and restaurants.

  • Tour Day 3 - Galway to Westport

    Day 3 Route


    Connemara awaits. I wonderful ride along the southern coast of Connemara through little gems such as Roundstone and onto Clifden.


    Explore Clifden town before heading further north via Leenan, the stunningly beautiful Killary Harbour and Doo Lough Mountain Pass to Louisburg. What a ride.


    Then a short hop to Westport where you will rest for the night and enjoy the many pubs and restaurants on offer in  this picturesque town.

  • Tour Day 4 - Westport to Donegal

    Day 4 Route


    It's quite a long day today so you will need to leave early. You;ll head north again along  the Wild Atlantic Way to Achill Island for a short break before continuing to Enniscrone, Bundoran and finally into Donegal town centre.


    It's a rugged exhilerating ride all day and the wonderful town of Donegal is you home for the next two nights.

  • Tour Day 5 - Donegal to Donegal

    Day 5 Route


    You have two options today. You can take a break and spend the day on foot in Donegal or ride north to Malin Head - Ireland's most northerly point.


    Stop in Derry/Londonderry on the way back to enjoy the history and learn something about the north/south divide and then back to Donegal.

  • Tour Day 6 - Donegal to Killaloe

    Day 6 Route


    Killaloe is on the shores of Lough Derg (Ireland's biggest lake) in Co. Clare. You will head the Killaloe inland for a change of scenery stopping at Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone on route.


    The shores of Lough Derg and a serene place ready for your last night's accommodation.


    Enjoy the village location and the bars and restaurants on offer.

  • Tour Day 7 - Killaloe to RetroVentures HQ

    Day 7 Route


    You will head back to RVHQ today in Adare after a nice lay in.


    You will head through Limerick City (Ireland's thrid largest city) and back to base.


    At the end of the tour we will debrief each other and get you on your way home, to the airport or to your next destination.

    Today you will ride south via Kenmare. Kenmare is a must-see town in Co. Kerry just off the Ring of Kerry. The town is full of shops, restaurants and cafes.


    You'll ride the stunning Caha mountain pass to Glengarriff for another pitstop. Glengarriff is another beautiful spot on the southern shores of West Co. Cork.


    Then it's off along the southern coast of the rugged Beara peninsula and and intrepid exploration of the stunning Healey Pass to Lauragh.


    You will stay in a quirky rural pub in the middle of pure scerenic beauty.

  • Tour Day 3 - Lauragh to Killarney

    Day 3 Route


    Ride parts of the Ring of Kerry today through the stunning Killarnery National Park.


    Then it's off to the Glencar National Park, Sunny Pass, and the remarkable Gap of Dunloe. You will love every minute of this ride and you'll ride roads that most people don't!

    Day 5 Route


    Up early today for a longer ride heading north via the Conor Pass and the rugged northern coast of the Dingle Peninsular.


    The you'll head inland for a bit to the Shannon ferry and onto Doolin on the west coast of Co. Clare. The open-air ferry is fun and you'll stay in beautiful Doolin.

  • Tour Day 6 - Doolin to Galway

    Day 6 Route


    You will head along the Co. Clare coast today via the Cliffs of Moher and ride the moonscape of The Burren.

BROAD TERMS

Third party insurance cover is provided with all rentals and is included in the prices shown. Damage and theft is covered by the renter but is limited to a maximum of €1500 in the case of damage caused by a genuine road traffic accident and theft whilst the motorcycle is locked and secured with all security devices issued. Security deposit for all rentals is €1500.


Minimum rental age 20 yrs.


You need a full motorcycle licence to ride a motorcycle or scooter in Ireland. The category of licence must match the category of motorcycle or scooter being rented. Generally, if you are licenced to ride a particular category in your home country then you can ride the same here. Learner permits are not sufficient, you must have passed a test. A car licence is not sufficient even if your home country allows you to ride a motorcycle on a car licence. All overseas licences are accepted. An English language international licence is needed for non-English language licences. If in doubt please ask.


EU approved crash helmets and all riding gear are available for hire for all riders and pillions.


All motorcycles come complete with full high capacity side panniers and top case (except the RE Shotgun). A steering lock is fitted as standard, a disc lock and a cable/chain lock are provided.


24 hour breakdown cover is provided.


Mileage is unlimited - we do not charge extra for excess miles / kms.


All rental costs are inclusive of tax.


Cancellation insurance is not available for Self Guided Motorcycle Tours. This is due to the fact that in order to keep our costs low we pay in full for accommodation at time of booking without cancellation terms and refunds are not available to us.
